Shooting Hearing Protection
Hearing Protection is just a natural part of life these days. Many years ago when people didn’t understand the risks of exposing yourself to loud noises, wearing ear plugs or ear muffs was just about unheard of. Today however, you would be an idiot to walk into a noisy environment without some form of a Hearing Protector. They don’t cost very much either, which gives you no excuse at all. If you don’t think it’s worth the few dollars to look after your hearing, or the minute that it takes to put your ear plugs in properly go and talk to someone who has lost their hearing. You will find out that putting heavy, bulky and annoying hearing aids into your ears every morning, having to adjust them regularly and put up with something so unnatural is not something that you want to experience firsthand.
As a result, even if you are enjoying yourself playing sport or at work, you need to wear some form of Hearing Protection. Shooting Hearing Protection has grown significantly over the last few decades, and with guns that are incredibly noisy you would want them to have! The main two options for Shooting Hearing Protection is to wear ear plugs or ear muffs. Most people prefer the ear muffs, but you want to personalize your selection based on the noise of the guns that you shoot. I know a few people that opt to wearing both ear muffs and ear plugs, just to be on the safe side. They are not very uncomfortable (not uncomfortable at all if you get good quality items) and they will save you a lot of hassle when you get older.
Shooting is a quick action, but it is very loud. The experts suggest that prolonged time in areas which are loud will cause the fastest damage, but they also acknowledge that short, sharp noises will cause damage too. What it comes down to is weighing up what you lose and gain from wearing hearing protection. To me, you have to be very silly not to wear it. If you are firing big guns which are very loud then using the right hearing protection is vital.
Look at those in the army; you very rarely see soldiers running around without an industrial set of Ear Muffs, and it’s for good reason. Loud noises can be instantly painful, but they will also leave your ears ringing for days, which affects your balance and in general your lifestyle. Even the professional shooters wear good quality Shooting Hearing Protection. What it comes down to is that your hearing is not replaceable, and it is worth much more than the little bit of money that you will spend on a good quality set of hearing protection. A few people choose to wear Custom Ear Plugs as these are very comfortable, easy to fit and they block out a large amount of noise. I always prefer to be on the safe side though, which is why I will usually wear a set of Ear muffs and a set of ear plugs (even if they aren’t that good quality!). If you do it regularly though, having Shooting Hearing Protection is vital
